HOWL: ART & LITERARY JOURNAL

Howl: Art & Literary Journal is the voice of UNM-Taos. Howl represents the powerful voices of Taos and its diverse Northern New Mexico culture. Howl's voices are thunderous. They resonate with the interconnected chords that serve to unite our personal, academic, and common realms. Howl hums across borders and fences, penetrating the minds and hearts of all who are courageous enough to listen. Taos is a place situated in ancestral rhythms and lies between the Sangre de Cristo mountains and the deepest canyons in all of New Mexico. Perhaps the magnetic pull between these two is what draws us in and out of ourselves and has attracted so many to settle in this valley. Howl: Art & Literary Journal celebrates the creative work of UNM-Taos students, staff, and faculty, as well as the greater community of Taos.

During the extraordinary circumstances of living in a global pandemic, and in an effort to have greater outreach in the community, UNM-Taos is taking Howl online this year. This digital book will be hosted on the UNM-Taos Fine Arts and Digital Media Department website and this platform allows for the inclusion of more work, including video. We also enacted the initiative Art Across Curriculum, which invites all departments to participate in a creative project to be included in Howl. As always, all students, alumni, faculty, staff and greater community of Taos are invited to submit works of art and writing.

Submission Requirements

This year, HOWL will be completely digital and will include more content than past printed editions. The final selection of work will be selected by a UNM-Taos Faculty Committee. Most submissions will be included. Any work, written or visual, that is not considered "family friendly" will be omitted. If you have questions about these parameters, please email taosarts@unm.edu.

Howl 2021 is accepting poetry, prose, interviews, artwork (all media), and video.

You may submit to more than one category.
